Many citizens are under the impression that the speed limit is 20 M.P.H. MOTOR VEHICLE CITATION: If you receive a civil motor vehicle citation there are two ways to resolve the citation. One is to pay the fine and the other is to fill out the back of the citation requesting a hearing, and mailing the citation to the Registry of Motor Vehicles in the envelope provided. The process for requesting a hearing is printed on the ticket. Road Races : Straight lines are obviously the most direct routes for the beginning and ending of any road race. However, the fewer intersections traveled across and the more right-hand turns built into the race or walk the easier it is to manage. This type of route will normally require less traffic control measures and will make the race route safer for the runners or walkers. Referring to an overhead map of Newton or looking the area up on the Web at www.mapquest.com w ill be of great assistance to you. When the route is formalized a letter must be sent to the Commissioner of Public Works for review and approval. Please include (1) the streets that will be used for the event; (2) a description and/or diagram of the race route with the start and finish lines and directional arrows for the runners or walkers; and (3) the date, time and number of participants expected for the event. Your letter should then be directed as follows: Commissioner Thomas Daley Once you have received permission from Commissioner Daley (617- 796-1000) and his staff to conduct the road race they will follow-up with you in order to obtain an insurance waiver. Upon completion of the insurance waiver you must call the Newton Police Department’s Traffic Bureau Commander (617-796-2106) to schedule a meeting to review traffic control or other necessary requirements. If The Newton Police Traffic Bureau can be of assistance to you, please stop by or call.
