The Newton, Massachusetts Animal Response Team (NMART) is a network of organizations and individuals responsible for coordinating the public, private and human resources needed for the rescue, recovery, sheltering, and care of animals during federal, state and local emergencies and the operation of Newton’s animal emergency facilities.
NMART is a volunteer organization under the leadership and guidance of the Newton Police Department. During a disaster situation involving the city of Newton, the Newton Police Department will activate the NMART team and open the animal emergency shelters to respond to the needs of the animal population in Newton. The NMART team utilizes the principles of the Incident Command System (ICS) and the National Incident Management System (NIMS).
