Lateral Transfer

The Newton Police Department is currently accepting applications for two (2) Civil Service, full-time, lateral transfer positions. Applicants must have Civil Service status under Chapter 31 and be eligible for transfer and have completed a full-time MPTC police academy. All candidates seeking transfer to the Newton Police Department will be required to successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation, oral interview, and medical and psychological examinations.

The City of Newton has a police force of 149 sworn officers and approximately 50 civilian employees. Newton has approximately 88,000 residents and covers over 18 square miles. The current salary for patrol officers is $52,249 - $68,756 plus full Quinn Bill and longevity for qualifying candidates as well as a generous benefits package.
